As I Grow!

I felt compelled to share this poem titled “As I Grow” because as leaders and parents we tend to do more “telling” and not showing. We tend to get wrapped in our own lives and forget how we affect others, especially our children. It’s imperative to remember that we are always being watched by little eyes, interpreted by developing brains which create memories, and loved with unconditional hearts that never skip a beat. Our children love us, as we love them… as our parents love us and as we love them. We must be in a constant state of being when we mutter words, act a certain way and feel. I encourage you to become the Hero in your child’s life, keep the lines of communication open, trust and model mutual respect as we all grow!

As I Grow

~ Author Unknown~

As I grow, please understand that I am growing up and changing very fast.  It must be difficult to keep pace with me, but please try.

As I grow, listen to me and give me brief, clear answers to my questions.  Then I will keep sharing my thoughts and feelings.

As I grow, reward me for telling the truth. Then I am not frightened into lying.

As I grow, tell me when you make mistakes and what you learned from them.  Then I can accept that I am OK when when I blunder.

As I grow, pay attention to me and spend time with me.  Then I can believe that I am important.

As I grow, do the things you want me to do.  Then I have a good positive role model.

As I grow, trust and respect me.  Even though I am smaller than you, I have feelings and needs just like you.

As I grow, compliment and appreciate me.  Then I’ll feel good and I’ll want to continue to please you.

As I grow, help me explore my unique interests, talents and potential.  In order for me to be happy, I need to be me and not you, or someone you want me to be.

As I grow, be an individual and create your happiness. Then you can teach me the same, and I can live happy, successful and fulfilling life.

Thank you for hearing me… I love you!
